Imagine if they both dropped dead on the same day and yes...in (late) October! Can you imagine the conspiracy theories?

Beside anything, a scenario like that really highlights the woeful inadequacy of the US political system.

I'm not sure there is anyone who can stop him, beside a large majority, and the purple states, voting for Biden.

A second Trump term seems a scary prospect indeed, but the other question is what will happen if he runs at the election and loses? I hope we get to see that, but i suspect it may be quite ugly. You'd have to say, on precedent, that Trump would absolutely refuse to accept the results of a losing election. He'd claim it was rigged, he'd call for 'action', we'd have a repeat of Jan 6 - maybe on even on Jan 6 again, and possibly all over the country. Certainly preferable to him winning, but hardly a reassuring prospect.

Maine has removed Trump from ballot!

Maine is one of three (?) states that proportionally distributes college votes, so this will have an impact. He got 1 out of 4 college votes in 2020 from maine, which is democrat leaning, so he can still win without it. We need a big purple state to rule him out.

Then again, if the genie can be at all rebottled, and i doubt that it can, but if it could be it certainly won't be by having him barred from running where it counts. It would be best to see him beaten evenly and soundly. Having said that, when concentration camps are on the table, it probably doesn't matter how he is stopped.

It's a roller coaster, US politics, at the moment. Crazy.

Yes, it seems bizarre that American's will not only vote for someone who will bring concentration camps to US soil, but who has openly said that is his attention publicly. Why is he even a contender? Has the American public really devolved that far from a free and democratic society?

I've stuck to the idea that Trump is a symptom of a broken system and removing him will not fix the problems that produced him. As a consequence, the same dysfunction will just produce another wannabe fascist (and a more intelligent one) to take his place, along with his 70 million votes. But is that true? At this point there probably isn't enough time for a GOP candidate to attract the loyalty and cultism that Trump has manicured over the last 8 years. There would be division in the ranks and they need every last vote to get even close to winning this year.

The best outcome is that he has a heart attack on national television and, fatal or otherwise, he can't run in the election. What are the chances? Any other form of death will turn into a conspiracy theorist's orgy and everyone might turn out for whoever replaces him on the ticket thus ensuring a quick transfer of cultist loyalty - Nikki Hailey probably.

Short of that long shot, is the legal angle that the do nothings are big on. I just think this is the wrong way to go but it's a back to the wall situation and of course Trump is a criminal so 'rule of law' and all that bullshit. (Actually, this approach is what makes me despise the Democrats. Rule of law for who? Fucking smug hypocrites blind to their own privilege, but that's beside the point). If Biden wins the election and Trump is unable to stand in at least one key state it would be a bit like putting out a fire with a giant mound of gunpowder. It's just a fucking dumb approach, but it's all they've got now because they didn't have the courage to get rid of Biden or actually wind back the neoliberalism that is suffocating and impoverishing their entire nation.

So, other than the long shot public medical emergency, all i can see is a choice between 1. concentration camps or 2. a guerilla civil war that could last for years. You'd have to opt for the latter, i suppose. What a choice.
