It's on the news as I type, but I find that I am slightly nauseated by the spectacle. Unlike the gripping horror movies of 2016 and 2020, I don't think I'll be able to watch it on TV. It's a bit like when the Queen died, I had a media blackout.stevebrooks wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 6:37 pmI don't think there's any doubt that Trump will be the nominee, but honestly win or lose the Presidency it is the worst outcome for the Republican Party, essentially there is no Republican Party anymore and his win will cement that. Multiple state Republican Parties are seriously short of money to the point of going broke, the endless grift from Trump et al has eroded the Republican funding base to the point where it can no longer support them, and that won't stop as long as Trump is calling the shots. The only question really is, can the US survive another Trump presidential run, even if he loses it's going to be chaos!
I personally don't think he will win the Presidency, but there will be violence, Jan 6th was a clear indication he won't go down without his supporters going ape shit.

Re: Donald Trump
A lot of online analysts are going the same way I suggested, that while the results are a win for Trump, they're not necessarily good news for Trump. Iowa is a deep red state, in the last presidential election only 6 counties voted for Biden. Keep in mind in the 2020 Iowa caucus Trump won 97.14% of the vote, this time it's only just over 50%. Also the 2020 caucus voting numbers were only 32,345, this caucus? 110,298, it looks strongly like a lot of people came out specifically to vote against Trump. In a survey 30% of the Republican voters said that if Trump is convicted, and keep in mind there are a lot of things he could be convicted of, he would not be a suitable candidate for the presidency.stylofone wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 7:04 pmIt's on the news as I type, but I find that I am slightly nauseated by the spectacle. It's a win, but not a good one by any argument.
Re: Donald Trump
The situation is different when running as the sitting president. You can't compare this with 2020. No one of any note challenged Trump in 2020 for the GOP nomination. The same will happen for Biden this year (disappointingly).stevebrooks wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 7:46 pm

But, i'm far from an expert obviously, and if we accept that this was perhaps not as good a result for Trump as it might have been then the winner is DeSantis. He beat Haley, which was a surprise to me, she seemed to have all the momentum (not including Trump). He is perhaps the only one who has actually gone beyond Trump in terms of crazy policy ideas, and he seems to really believe it all, a true ideologue, a true christian fascist. He will probably win Florida, and he may win some other southern states?
I was very worried about DeSantis last year, but he's kind of slipped off the radar recently. He's young and fresh, he may have more chance against Biden than Trump.

On the other hand, as pointed out by many sites, the Trump MAGA loyalists actually consider him the sitting president in fact and not just in their minds, he was just robbed by the Democrats. The argument is there has been so much push and media from Trump and friends that he was robbed that he is in fact the GOP default sitting president and should be strongly advantaged in that way over the other candidates.pipbarber wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 8:05 pmThe situation is different when running as the sitting president. But we'll get a clearer picture once some of the less, shall we say, blood coloured, states have primaries.

Yeah it's a medieval throwback, people with certain diseases are "bad" people, of course in the US it just means you are poor and can't afford to pay the medical bills. In Trump's case it's entirely unnecessary because the evidence he is evil is obvious to everyone, except his followers of course, and I don't think having Syphilis would change their views anyway, they would just blame it on Obama and the deep state!stylofone wrote: ↑Thu Jan 18, 2024 1:09 pmIn James Carville's video he expresses his enthusiasm for the syphilis theory "I am humping this thing like a young dog on old furniture".Irrev-Black wrote: ↑Thu Jan 18, 2024 12:25 pm A pox on the Clown?

The deep state Democrats are going to kill Joe Biden and either Michelle Obama or Oprah Winfrey will be the candidate. Now that Trump's syphilis is out in the open, no wonder MAGA is scared.

I've seen an attempt to explain Clowny's Red Right Hand (thanks, Nick Cave!) as a papercut.
