Interestingly the hybrid costs more than the full electric, which really shouldn't be surprising since there are a lot of extra components, and shorter service intervals because, of course, petrol motor and etc.
That seems to be the same as the Nissan X-Trail system (I posted on page 17), makes sense I suppose..

The two problems I found when I looked at that was Drive tested it and said the RAV4 was more efficient, plus the Nissan requires 95 unleaded vs the Toyota Hybrids that use 91, saving a little more money again.

Not really sure what Nissan are trying to do here, more complexity means more chance of faults IMHO, all other things being equal. Add to that it not being more efficient I am not sure who thought this was worthwhile.

I guess time will tell whether more tests show any justification to adopt this new Hybrid approach.

NEW new battery tech.

Now supposedly with less fire risk.

I essentially see it as a bone thrown to the range anxious.

There's so much noise about EVs and climate change, much of it driven by political/fossil fuel misinformation black ops, that the developments in battery technology are not getting headlines. It's moving incredibly fast, with benchmarks being passed years ahead of even the most optimistic predictions. The new CATL battery beats the recent improvements achieved by BYD, although I suspect the latter will be in cars sooner.

It's going to be a wild ride - EVs cheaper than ICE cars, China's industrial and economic power increasing, ensuing trade wars, petro-states fading away. Maybe Albanese's dream of making climate change worse with our gas exports could also collapse due to falling demand.

Articles like this make me laugh;
Research from Auto Trader said there were “unsustainable levels of depreciation” in the electric car market, with used prices of battery-powered vehicles dropping by 23pc in the last year alone.
If your buying a new car every few years you are part of the problem with the world today. On the other hand if you are indeed foolish enough to buy and sell an EV in as little as a few years then that gives people without the money to buy a new one an opportunity. I have never seen the necessity of buying a new car every few years, my current car is 16 years old, it runs well, as good as the day I purchased it, it has no dents and has never been in an accident (aside from the minor car park dents we all get) and the interiors is still in good condition. It's worth maybe 2.5k to 4k, but who cares, it runs well why would I sell it?

EV's, in theory, should last longer than most ICE cars, less maintenance, batteries are the big ticket item that may need replacing, but new battery technology may increase battery life length, but still, if you buy a new EV I would expect at least 10 years of use, so why are people complaining about price drops for used EV's?

But even worse, at the moment EV's are dropping in price due to technological development, you have to really expect that no-one wants a first generation EV unless it's cheap enough, this is the price you pay for jumping in at the beginning of a new technology. Oh well, I will never understand people who buy a new car every couple of years I guess.

Read the other day that EV's made in China have a 100% from Chinese retail markup when they are sold in Europe, that gives them leeway to just drop the price any time European makers start making cheaper EV's.
