Yeah conventions and laws seem to have no effect on Trump and his followers, nor precedent, the Dem's let the entire country down badly by mismanaging the investigations last term, it may actually come to what all the MAGA have been calling for, civil war, that would be cheered on of course by the authoritarians around the world, Putin, Kim and others, the EU needs to step up and increase investment in self defence in my opinion but there have been to many years of peace, Ukraine itself is a wake up call, let's hope it's not to late.

That's the thing, isn't it? It's not just the laws and conventions....Musk's 'salute'? All the media make allowances for it. Dog whistle Nazi rounding up of people, internment camps? It's constant white washing.
Mainstream media in the US are suckling at the teat now.

Someone on another forum said they are doing it because they don't want to be sued and litigated into oblivion, the problem is, as I explained to them, that's already where they are heading, they can either go down giving them hell and fighting, or they can go down kissing arse, and no-one will ever miss them. It's what the holocaust survivors say, "how did it happen? Because everyone just let it happen!"

Exactly.

It appears from day one Trump is imposing 25% tariffs on all goods from Canada and Mexico, also threatening total blanket tariff on the rest of the world. If he does that and goes ahead with his mad deportation plan I suspect his term will end sooner rather than later, I can't see the US surviving both of these. I mean yes he pulled out of the climate accord, and yes he got rid of the EV stuff, but those are little things, if he just did those I think no-one in the US would even blink.
While I say little things, they are big in creating confusion and alarm world wide, but the little people in red states in the US won't even notice the change, and that's what matters. But the tariffs and deportations are things that will get noticed in those states, it remains now to see the reaction and which way it goes.

Trump has signed an EO to change birthright citizenship, but apparently it contains something they are calling the Kamala Harris clause, and if it came into power it would remove Kamala Harris's citizenship!
I can't help but to project into the near future. I know it's largely guess work, but it somehow helps me, on a personal level, to prepare for the worst (and i say that with full awareness that i'm not immediately impacted by any of this).
The executive order is clearly anti-constitutional and these Democratic states with their dem appointed judges will find against Trump, then it goes to the supreme court? (I don't know the actual process) Anyway, they'll find in favor of Trump. Then Trump sends in troops to locate these birthrighters, including actual babies presumably, and what will the Dems do then?
It's just one of multiple flashpoints that seem to be rapidly approaching. But based on the DNC over the last decade, there's little chance the US will descend into a civil war, or at least one led by the Democrats. They'll roll over of course, in exchange for their pensions or their freedom or money. I'm skeptical the Democrats will offer any resistance beyond the their legal reps, they all seem to prefer to keep their uncalloused hands as clean as possible. But who knows.
We won't have long to find out though.

Trump held is first press conference as President:
when asked how he was going to bring an end to the war in Ukraine in 24 hours like he said he would stated, "I have asked President Xi of China to do that." So Trump thinks he can delegate his promises foreign leaders? And when it doesn't happen what then? "Oh it was President Xi's fault not mine, I take no responsibility!"
He has decided to withhold emergency aid from Los Angeles until the Democrats in the house passes his new spending bill.
Doesn't understand what H1B visa's are, but that's normal for him, doesn't understand anything.
Doesn't even know what areas of Los Angeles got hit by the fires as he lies about water restrictions.
May give Oathkeepers and Proud Boys released from prison positions in his government!
Keep in mind this was supposed to be a press conference on Artificial Intelligence, he had all the tech bros there lined up, then just started talking about how rich everyone is!
This is the next 4 years wrapped up in one press conference;

Sermon after the inauguration roundly criticised Trump and his actions;
During a prayer service at Washington's National Cathedral Tuesday, the Episcopal bishop of Washington directly confronted President Trump while he and Vice President J.D. Vance were seated in the front row.
After the sermon this was posted
After the service on Tuesday, Republican U.S. Representative Mike Collins from Georgia posted a video clip on X of Budde's sermon along with the text, "The person giving this sermon should be added to the deportation list."
So not just undocumented and immigrants, citizens and anyone critical of Trump gets deported, exactly where to?
DEI action, step 1) lay of everyone in the government that has anything to do with it, step 2) investigate and prosecute private companies for hiring people of colour...hang on what?
That step is the first salvo in an aggressive campaign to upend DEI efforts nationwide, including leveraging the Justice Department and other agencies to investigate private companies pursuing training and hiring practices that conservative critics consider discriminatory against non-minority groups such as white men.
It's white men only from now on, they are the only ones you will be allowed to hire or you will dobbed in by conservative busybodies, be investigated by the government and possibly prosecuted.
